The Uncommon Marriage Adventure

A very good book to read the 1-3 pages in each chapter perhaps in the morning with your spouse before work. This book is structured as a devotional with sixteen weeks worth of lessons, with short chapters directed specifically at either men or women which largely alternate between the two, those written by Lauren for wives and those written by Tony for husbands.

I did not agree with all of it but I can see the authors  passion for helping others.

This book points out several things
Honor parents, value their  wisdom and seek out their best.
Serve others. Have a changed attitude

What I really liked was a point that says something like this. .I can't choose my situation but I can always choose my attitude.

Among the many qualities that make this book excellent is the fact that it is real. It is clear from this book that both authors care deeply for each other, respect each other highly, and are committed to each other’s well being.

Not a a favorite but I am glad to have read and gleaned from this book.

Thanks
 for the free book!

The Chia Cookbook: Inventive, Delicious Recipes Featuring Nature's Superfood

I was so impressed with this cookbook that I wanted to make every one of the recipes but after reading the authors story to total heath, I knew I had  to pass this book on ( just to lend. I have to sue this book!!!). My friend has a a terrible rash on her body  but after reading the heath benefits I am convinced a diet with these little seeds in it will cure  my dear friend. The author describes her struggle with a terrible disorder and how nothing else helped her symptoms better than adding Chia Seeds into her daily diet. Once she found the power of these magical seeds, it made her disorder almost completely disappear.

The sections in the book include:
Juices, Smoothies, & Shakes
Healthy Mornings
Snacks and Small Bites
Salads and Soups
Main Dishes
Desserts, Sweet Nibbles, and Cocktails

I cant wait  to sue this book. These seeds are amazing. They are the richest plant-based source of omega 3's .  With 70% more protein than soybeans, 25 percent more fiber than flaxseed, 600 percent more calcium than milk and 200 percent more potassium than a banana, chia earns its superfood status with ease.

To tempt you hear is a recipe
Chia green superfood smoothie
This superfood cleanse-style smoothie makes a supersatisfying snack. The apple juice and grapes give it just the right amount of sweetness, while the ginger and lemon provide a nice kick. If you add in a small handful of raw almonds and enjoy the whole recipe for yourself, you’ve got the perfect meal replacement.
Serves 2

3⁄4 cup 100% pure apple juice (not from concentrate), at room temperature
1 tablespoon white chia seeds
1 cup firmly packed fresh baby spinach or baby kale
1 cup seedless green grapes, frozen
1⁄2 cup chopped, peeled or unpeeled, English cucumber
1⁄4 Hass avocado, peeled
1⁄4 cup loosely packed fresh mint leaves
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 1 small lemon)
2 teaspoons peeled, grated fresh ginger

In a liquid measuring cup or small bowl, whisk together the apple juice and chia seeds and let stand for about 20 minutes. (Makes about 7⁄8 cup apple-chia gel.)

Place the apple-chia gel, spinach, grapes, cucumber, avocado, mint, lemon juice, and ginger in a blender. Cover and puree until smooth. Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.

Do not forget the beautiful pictures which make this book all the better!

Preaching by Ear

I dont have a picture of this book but Preaching by Ear bDave McClellan was very good.Preaching is not only about giving a sermon. It is also about preparing the preacher. it will bless preachers if they can use this book!Dave McClellan has written a book that helps preachers see the differences between preaching done today and preaching done in Jesus’s time.  Another point in this book discusses the importance of ‘preaching by ear’ not jsut reading the text. Preaching must come from the heart ( with some guide lines.).

Others who are not preachers can really understand what preaching is.  Do get this as a gift for your pastor this Christs! A very helpful and insightful book for preachers, and should be recommended for preachers young or old. I enjoyed  it because it looked at history for insight.

Very Very good to say the least!

Bitesize Biographies Samuel Rutherford Book Cover

Most of us dont know  much about this man except he wrote the The Sands of Time are Sinking" .
This is the perfect size  not to heavy just enough for you to " fall in love" with this man of God. Do pick it up and read today!

Samuel Rutherford was a Scottish pastor who lived in the 1600s who underwent persecution along with other Christians under the reigns of Charles the I and II. How it grieved him when, during his early years at Anwoth, he saw little fruit: ‘I see exceedingly small fruit of my ministry. I would be glad of one soul to be my crown of joy on the day of Christ.’ (Rutherford, page 39) Follow  him into exile an see his faith rest on God alone.
Nor could Rutherford have envisioned in his wildest dreams that a collection of letters that he sent to friends from his exile in Aberdeen would rank among the most beloved Christian classics,
a timeless source of spiritual inspiration to millions of readers.

The book talked about Rutherford’s enthusiasm for Jesus Christ and I also was  satisfied with
the definition of Arminianism.  This is a belief that Rutherford criticized. While Arminianism does
emphasize human free will in coming to Christ. Rutherford held that humans come
to Christ solely by divine grace . Do read this book

The author also wrote Trial and Triumph which my sisters enjoyed!

In His Arms

I was impressed with most of this book. If you feel overwhelmed with life then you must read this volume. Are you always trying to do more than one ting at a time ? Stop pick up this book and read  to get insight  from the author who can save you from going down the wrong path. You will learn to listen and find what is most important! If you are feeling that feeling of being overwhelmed with the busyness of life, this book can help you slow down and focus on God’s plan and timing instead of the accomplishments of the world. When it’s all focused on Him, there is much less pressure on us.

This book will help you commit fully to a life time of following Christ! Weems does a fabulous job of weaving together simple, practical advice, encouragement and biblical teachings to help us get back to pace that leads to wholeness, . A very uplifting read.

My least favorite chapter was on exercising , not because it was poorly written but jsut because info was so basic.

This book will enable one to have a lifestyle of unbroken faith in God!

. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher and BookLookBloggers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I have not been compensated.

Fun kids book

Look Inside the Time of Jesus
A Lift-the-Flap Discovery Book
By Lois Rock
Illustrated by Lorenzo Orlandi

Part of the Lift-the-Flap Discover Book series, this letter-size hardbound of eight pages targets children three to seven years old.  Very fun! Learn about the life and times of Jesus while lifting flaps. Will make a great Christmas gift for my best friends little girl! Also would be a great Sunday book. The illustrations are cute and colorful, and the lift-the-flap appeal will draw young children to want to have this one read to them again and again.

The book does take you on a journey revealing all kinds of fascinating details behind the flaps. Each flap tells a behind the scene story which will make it more fun for the kids.First let me start by saying that this is very good quality - a beautiful hard cover book with heavy board pages, perfect for small hands. It is also a nice big size.

Thanks to Kregel Publishing for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review of the reader’s honest opinion.

In Her Kitchen: Stories and Recipes from Grandmas Around the World

In Her Kitchen

This is a super fun book! On each page is a picture of a grandam with her ingredient a dish,  from around the world and a little about her, her cooking, family and land. On the other side is the recipe pictured!! Photographer Gabriele Galimberti has traveled the world, interviewing women who have served their families in the home for decades.! This book is quite varied; the author includes countries from South America, Africa, North America, Asia and Europe. I have yet to share with my siblings but I know they will enjoy it since we have a fasination for people from other lands!

Note of worning - there are two pictures not to be shown to a mixed group. This book is to be treasured mainly for the photographs and short  sketches about each beloved grandmother! Featuring grandmothers and their dishes from sixty countries, Galimberti has captured the heart and soul of families across the globe.

Gabriele Galimberti - In Her Kitchen GABRIELE GALIMBERTI is a photographer whose work has appeared in Newsweek, Le Monde, and Vanity Fair, among other publications. In 2013, he finished an eighteen-month photography trip around the world. His photographs and stories have led to partnerships with illy and CouchSurfing.org and have appeared in slideshows onSlate. No matter where he currently rests his head, he calls Italy his home.
In a gorgeous keepsake volume based on the slideshow that captured the world’s attention, Gabriele Galimberti’s beautiful portraits of grandmothers from all over the world with their signature dishes stunningly illustrates the international language of food and family. On the eve of a photography trip around the world, Gabriele Galimberti sat down to dinner with his grandmother Marisa. As she had done so many times before, she prepared his favorite ravioli—a gesture of love and an expression of the traditions by which he had come to know her as a child. The care with which she prepared this meal, and the evident pride she took in her dish, led Gabriele to seek out grandmothers and their signature dishes in the sixty countries he visited. The kitchens he photographed illustrate both the diversity of world cuisine and the universal nature of a dish served up with generosity and love. At each woman’s table, Gabriele became a curious and hungry grandson, exploring new ingredients and gathering stories. These vibrant and intimate profiles and photographs pay homage to grandmothers and their cooking everywhere. From a Swedish housewife and her homemade lox and vegetables to a Zambian villager and her Roasted Spiced Chicken, this collection features a global palate: included are hand-stuffed empanadas from Argentina, twice-fried pork and vegetables from China, slow-roasted ratatouille from France, and a decadent toffee trifle from the United States. Taken together or bite by bite, In Her Kitchen taps into our collective affection for these cherished family members and the ways they return that affection.

Very Arminnion

Invitation to Philippians: Building a Great Church through Humility (Biblical Preaching for the Contemporary Church)

It is hard to appreciate  book in a series
Invitation to Philippians: Building a Great Church through Humility (124 pages; $14.99)
Invitation to James: Persevering through Trials to Win the Crown (134 pages; $14.99)
Invitation to the Life of Jacob: Winning through Losing (168 pages; $14.99)
Invitation to Galatians (forthcoming)
Invitation to Joshua (forthcoming)
Invitation to Mark (forthcoming)

when it is very arminnion. This colors his thinking on all subject. I could not agree with him on some view points since I am more Calvinistic Baptist. This book came out last month but still is not available to review on Amazon.

I found the author a little wishy washy with his examples. He seemed to focus more on choices.. Even if the person makes the "right" moral choice, that doesn't make the person a Christian. Mormons are very moral people, but they deny that Jesus is God, and therefore, they are not Christians. Mr. Sunukjian regulates what Christians should and should not do based on his personal experiences without specific biblical references; that's not Christianity, that's just another works-based religion. It was very disappointing with this read since I love the book of Philippians.

For preachers

Thought I would review this book and see if it would make a great gift for a preacher friend of  mines wedding! This is indeed a textbook for helping one preach.

"committing his sermon to God, desiring His Spirit to move in [the congregation's] hearts... when Sunday morning arrived, he confidently stood and sought to deliver his message with the authority of God. Yet, when the service concluded and the congregation left the building... It seemed that each week was a repeat of the same."

This book is different it will give one the in site  on how to reach the people. This book comprises four parts where Overstreet will:

1) Identify the Issues Facing Persuasive Preaching;
2) What is the Biblical Basis of Persuasive Preaching;
3) How to Structure Persuasive Messages;
4) How to Apply Persuasion?
This book is provided to me courtesy of Weaver Book Company and Cross Focused Reviews in exchange for an honest review. All opinions offered above are mine unless otherwise stated or implied.. The challenge of Biblical persuasion is how to move people from a modernist mindset toward biblical truth. This book can help!

It ill defiantly become a gift  some day for a friend of  mine! They can learn a lot!

I received this book for free from Weaver Book Company via Cross Focused Reviews for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and are my honest review of the book.
