Rages to Riches to True Riches in Christ!

I love it when I read a good book that makes me cry and laugh at the same time. That is just what this book did! I was looking forward to reading this book a chapter every day for ten days but once I began it I could not put it down and read it very quickly! This is an unusual memoir/autobiography by Greg Hershberg about his his life. There is a lot about his father. As you read you will understand why the author didso This book is really impressive as it reveals the devotion and love Gregs father showed towards his wife, and the grace God gave Greg. I liked how it shows that riches don't make one happy. And that faith has to be more than traditions.
Overall I was amazed and impressed by the love shared throughout this confusing life. I was not so sure about the fact that he and his wife both saw Jesus in Israel but I over looked this point because I had to since I was falling in love with this read.
I am a history lover so I really enjoyed learning what it was like to grow up Jewish during the 1960s and 1970s.
This book points to Jesus and gives him all the glory. One cannot read this book and be unchanged. This book is another testimony to God's faithfulness. From the first chapter, I was grabbed by this heart-touching, convicting, motivating book. One can tell that the author know his topic , after all it is a book about himself! It was easy to understand yet convicting. Needless to say, I do recommend this book for all audiences!

Like a River

This is a World war II book which one can't but help loving. I am a fan of anything to do with the Wars. In fact I collect these kinds of books. This one was a keeper. Kelli Stuart's new book Like A River From Its Course is fiction but what a thriller! I felt like I was in the Ukrainian and German world since this book painted vividly researched pictures. This author really took time to research her material. I know this because I have read a number of very heavy , deep books on different events from the Wars. Not always a fan of first person accounts I was not disappointed with this one. I enjoyed following the stories of three characters. Each one was a gripping, thrilling and heart breaking at the same time.
On a side note some mentioned they thought this book would be Christen but I knew other wise since having researched the author. Also there was some romance in it which I found to be refreshing but some of the pre-romantic notions ( very historical) are not good for younger readers. Some of the happenings I wish had not read about. But in all I would highly recommend this book to adults.
Based on true stories gathered from fifteen years of research and interviews with Ukrainian World War II survivors, Like a River from Its Course is a story of love, war, heartache, forgiveness, and starting over.

A true story
In the end I felt like I learned bout the segregation blacks felt ( at that time they still had their own parks, sides of streets and stores), and actually understood basketball for the first time. Because of this book I now want to be at a game. Ken Abraham has done a fantastic job!
I received this book free from the publishers and was not required to write a positive review.

Faygala, Yiddish Refugee

T
Touching story that brought tears to my eyes as I read of
one suffering to reach freedom and leaving her beloved. I was happily relieved the ending was a pleasant one. I half expected it not to be since this a true story written by the character Faygala's, daughter in law.
The story opens up in 1915 in Russia where a 17 year Jewish young women is molested by Cossack solders . She must flee to reach America to be untied with her father in Ohio.
Bettey Baker, has done a wonderful job reconstructing this story
which she has heard from her mother -in -law so many times.
I recommend you get a copy and read it out loud to your children. Let them experience the terrifying thought that perhaps today the soldiers will come and destroy I felt very sad for this poor girl who had not seen her father in 10 years . He had fled so as not to be drafted into the army. Follow the hardships to a happy ending.
I am a fan of world war1 and 11 books and this one did not disappoint. Short but extremely well written , you won't want to miss. Add his to your collection today. Find it on amazon!
Thank you olive press for the book!

Changed Forever by His Grace

Changed by grace is a compelling life journey from bondage to freedom; from inner pain to healing; from post abortion trauma to forgiveness and restoration. we all go threw times of depression wondering why we are alive. IN this book by Canadian born author she shares her life story with us. I was drawn to this book because it is not often one gets to read anything written by Canadians and I am very in love with Toronto because my grandma lives there and my mother was raised in his part of the land! This is a story of a Jewish lady and her life starting from childhood, very touching. Rhonda did not feel like she fit in anywhere so she went searching for peace. In her search she met those that followed Jesus who had found it. Follow her compelling journey to freedom.
When I got this book from the publisher to review, I didn't know how good it would be! The cover design, although interesting, doesn't reflect how real and life-changing the text of the book is! Yet again, I am blessed to read and review a wonderful book on suffering and triumph through faith in Jesus!
I highly recommend this book for those who are going through suffering, have experienced it in the past and who, like me have never gone through anything major.
When all seems lost, where can hope be found? When darkness colors every moment, is it possible to find light? Can God still be good, find out in this read . How can my words describe the beauty and value of this book? From the first chapter, I knew this book would be a favourite of mine. As I read, my first impression was not unfounded. This book really, really touched my heart. Do not miss this beautiful and God-glorifying book. I love reading people's testimonies; I only wish there were more autobiographies like this!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

Avenue of Spies

The leafy Avenue Foch, one of the most exclusive residential streets in Nazi-occupied France, was Paris's hotbed of daring spies, murderous secret police, amoral informers, and Vichy collaborators. So when American physician Sumner Jackson, who lived with his wife and young son Phillip at Number 11, found himself drawn into the Liberation network of the French resistance, he knew the stakes were impossibly high. Just down the road at Number 31 was the "mad sadist" Theodor Dannecker, an Eichmann protégé charged with deporting French Jews to concentration camps. And Number 84 housed the Parisian headquarters of the Gestapo, run by the most effective spy hunter in Nazi Germany.
I found this to be a very good read and so has my sister who is still into it! It is a true story that makes you feel like it is a fiction story,.You will be wondering can all this happen to one person! This true story of an American family in Paris aiding the French resistance from an apartment only a few doors down from the Paris headquarters of the SS will probably be made into a film very soon. i would really like to see it as it would be very good but the book will always be the best I am sure.
I am very thankful for this book to review!

In the Summer of 1945....

Ray's faith was put to the test when his Bible was taken from him. See how God was still his all in all in this well written book.
In between Ray's story, Betty's letters are integrated every few chapters. The letters begin as her letters to her parents at the beginning of the war describing her life as a nurse in France, and they end with her letters to her future husband,
A must read ! Very good front n this touching story. Thanks Tyndale for letting me review this fantastic chapter book!

The Good Spy
he Good Spy is Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Kai Bird’s compelling portrait of the remarkable life and death of one of the most important operatives in CIA history – a man who, had he lived, might have helped heal the rift between Arabs and the West.
On April 18, 1983, a bomb exploded outside the American Embassy in Beirut, killing 63 people. The attack was a geopolitical turning point. It marked the beginning of Hezbollah as a political force, but even more important, it eliminated America’s most influential and effective intelligence officer in the Middle East – CIA operative Robert Ames. What set Ames apart from his peers was his extraordinary ability to form deep, meaningful connections with key Arab intelligence figures. Some operatives relied on threats and subterfuge, but Ames worked by building friendships and emphasizing shared values – never more notably than with Yasir Arafat’s charismatic intelligence chief and heir apparent Ali Hassan Salameh (aka “The Red Prince”). Ames’ deepening relationship with Salameh held the potential for a lasting peace. Within a few years, though, both men were killed by assassins, and America’s relations with the Arab world began heading down a path that culminated in 9/11, the War on Terror, and the current fog of mistrust.
Very well written and informative. It also has a section with photographs from his life
This is mostly a story of the Mid-East in the 1970s-80s, an era we've basically forgotten. It has some of the life of Robert Ames thrown in. I thought it was very cleaverly written so one can learn about two things at ounce.

Wow!!!!! From the Dark to the Dawn: A Tale of Ancient Rome
From the Dark to the Dawn: A Tale of Ancient Rome
My praise for this book are not high enough . This is one christen teenagers fiction which is worth reading, Actually it is also good for adults too. I was so impressed with the writing style of this thriller. This would be a great read for a home schooling family studying Rome. I highly recommenced it for boys. This will get your non reader to read! This is not your normal christen fiction where God is just thrown in a few inappropriate parts. The christen faith and lal that pertains to God is the life of the story. One can not extract it from the book or there will be nothing to this read. It is not like other books where if you took God out you could have a fine book. You feel that God is the authors life. Some day Lord willing I want to own all her books!
From the Dark to the Dawn
Decadent Rome, 61 Anno Domini. The masters of the universe have crushed the Iceni rebellion with an iron hand, slaughtering and enslaving her people.
For Philip, his existence as a captive means living to hatred. He despises his rich, young master, resenting his life of servitude and the wrestling feats Marcus forces him to perform. Bitterness engulfs his soul until he only lives for the day when he will crush the might of Rome.
Then Christianity enters the picture. Taught by a Jewish breadmaker to know the man called Christus, Philip begins the struggle to forgive and honor his master. But forgiveness is not easy towards one who lives for himself.
Marcus Virginius knows nothing but power and pleasure. Destined to a successful career serving Nero in the Praetorian Guard, he wants no part of Christianity. And he is determined to crush Philip’s newfound faith – no matter what it takes.
Join Philip and Marcus in their journey of redemption, faith, and forgiveness. Is love enough to conquer hate? And will the light of the gospel ever surmount the darkness of Rome?
Persecution abounds – will the two young men survive its terrors and live to experience the bright hope of a new dawn?
On From the Dark to the Dawn:
"Alicia Willis transports readers back to the troubled clash between the crushing might of Imperial Rome and the vengeful determination of the Celtic occupants of ancient Britain. From the Dark to the Dawn: A Tale of Ancient Rome will delight readers of historical fiction."

wow! Wonderful read
A grand read which my sisters are now reading! Author Stice does a magnificent job of explaining recent past events of the implications and definition of the "Arab Spring" within the Middle East. This book is for older readers since there is some deep material in this book but it one you will never pit down. I highly recommend this book. It makes us look at the news in an entirely different light.
I have sensed for many years that the AntiChrist will come out of a Muslim country along with a one world government, religion and money system, it's good to know there are others who have sensed the same and are willing to write bout it. we need to stop feeling sorry for Muslims but love them enough to tell them the gospel.http://anekopress.com/arab-spring-christian-winter-blog-tour/

excellent book by Steven Lawson
Highly recommended! I was blown away by this read. I wrote this a while ago but for some reason just found it in my drafts I really enjoyed this book.I found the cover, size, font and layout of the book appealing and conducive to enjoyable reading and studying.
A breath of fresh air, this book is Biblically-sound, clear, deep and yet easy to read! I think this book would make a good gift for a new Christian friend, and for anyone unused to reading books on doctrine or Christian living which are more than double the size. Additionally, this book would be great for a child to read. And lastly, although this book is addressed to a Christian, I do recommend it for anyone; it would therefore also be a good gift choice for your unsaved acquaintances as well.
It opens ones eyes to appreciate the Bible more! What a well written book! This short book should be a great inspiration to young preachers and missionaries everywhere to not abandon scripture and to continue to preach and teach the hard truths of the Bible
.
I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

Signs from America's Past That Signal Our Nation's Future

The Coming Revolution Signs from America's Past That Signal Our Nation's Future
By Dr. Richard Lee
Published by Thomas Nelson
The Author, Dr. Lee is a Christian pastor and the book is written from a Christian perspective. The book was interesting in that it told much about American history and goes on to elaborate about the state of our country presently and the disparity between past and present founding principles. Our founding fathers were men of faith and moral character and our nation has transitioned into one with tremendous debt, lack of morality, violence and religious confusion.
The author touches on important things that are going on in our nation today. Although I felt a tinge of hopelessness and helplessness while reading this book, I came away in the end feeling hopeful because he ended the book with a section on "What You Can Do". I found this to be helpful in that he describes what he believes we can do to change the state of things in our nation.
Dr. Lee lists 10 things we can do to get involved.

War Over Lincoln`s Tariff

This 36 page booklet is very informative. It has an Appendix on Abolitionism by H. Rondel Rumburg.
During the war Dabney became Chaplin, following that chief of staff upon Jackson request and then was requested by the Widowed Mrs. Jackson to write a biography of her husband Jackson. All this and more information can be found on the back of this book.
What was the war all about? Was it over slavery or the desire of Lincoln to collect a tariff ? In the opening chapter Dabney gives a brief history of Virgina. Then the Controversial account of Fort Sumter is written bring forth , the truth. Colonel Baldwin visits the president at the white house where he asked Abraham L. to remain faithful to the Constitution and that they would support him. Afterwards C. Baldwin lays out a plan but too it the L. wasts to know what “would become of his tariff? ”
The delema was what to do with the succeeding states, should they go in peace or be compelled to remain by force. Many newspapers and Northers firmly believed in letting the states depart in peace for that was according to the constitution.
In conclusion of the first section of this book we will understand it best by this quote “When Virginia offered him (Lincoln) a safe way to preserve the union, he preferred to destroy the union and preserve his tariffs. ”
Secondly we are rightly asked to question the true purpose of the Civil war, in the shadow of the proceeding section. Consider how the North thought the battle would be a brief one, brimming full of victory because the south was too boastful, and thus would draw back in a sudden defeat. In the conclusion their wish for the outcome of the war would be to have centralized Federal power, with high tariffs where they could have power and riches. I need not extract much from this chapter as it can not be fully understood unless read for ones self, which is very vital in order to have a deep and clear knowledge of the times known as the Civil war.
Lastly a most wonderfully written Appendix on Abolitionism by H. Rondel Rumburg is put before us. Abolitionists used Christianity as a cover up for their movements, so that they could justify their actions. Learn what the Bible says about slavery and how by freeing the salves in the Underground Railroad, sin was being harbored, as the holy word of God was twisted by mans sinful heart. These people used the Bible for their own ways considering each of them a prophet in his on right. In reality their main goal, masked over by freeing the salves, was really destroying the south that represented Christianity which they hated in its true forum. Rev Barnes the Northern Presbyterian states “ Show me that the Bible sanctions salvery and the Bible is no Bible to me. ”
In the end there is so much information in this short booklet, that is worth while reading and pondering, that one might have a better and clearer understanding about some of the most twisted http://www.biblicalandsouthernstudies.com/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=28&keyword=dabney&searchby=author&offset=0&fs=1facts of the uncivil war. One will not be disappointed with this volume.
