Baseball

God's Allstar Baseball Team

I got this book not because I am a fan of baseball  but because it brigs  me back to  some fond memories.  Also  wanted to learn about Art! this book is full of pictures!! It was fun to follow his life story.  and there were some really funny episodes  especially about his brothers and  mother. Interesting perspective on how God can use this sport to teach us abut  him  in his word.  Funny how the Bible can be looked at in many different lights.  I hope you are on God's base ball team.  Learn about God's love in this book and how he broke Art to use  him for his glory.

Side  note I don't agree with all the doctrine but you make the call.

Thanks olive press for the book to review!

Look Inside the Time of Jesus A Lift-the-Flap Discovery Book

This is a perfect book for  3- 5 year old children!  Very engaging wit many lift the flap pictures. The colors with which this book is illustrated are bright and cheerful, perfect for little eyes. Your child will want to read this book over and over again, and it is a good idea for keeping your little one occupied during church!

The illustrations are cute and colorful, and the lift-the-flap appeal will draw young children to want to have this one read to them again and again. I like the way that the account of Jesus’ life is integrated with the scenes of life in that time so that kids are learning not only about the life of Christ but also a little about the time period and culture. Older children can read the book for themselves and can spend time reading the flaps and exploring a little more.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest review by Kregel publications, but I have shared my own thoughts and opinions, I was not required to write a favorable review.

The Crimson Cord

A very compelling story that I had to read all in one sitting as I could not put it down.  The author did a good job linking Rahab's story with the line of Israel, after all she is in the lien of  Christ.

Yet there were times when I wondered if the author played too much with the few verses about this young women, which are mentioned in the Bible. Is it right to  fabricate a story on so little? All that we know about Rahab from scripture can be drawn from chapters 2 & 6 in the book of Joshua, Hebrews 11:31, and from the lineage of Christ listed in Matthew 1:5.  Also at times I wonder if Joshua was portrayed as he should be .
Now comes my personal opinion of the book. To be honest, I did not think it spectacular. The story was weak. I couldn't sympathize with the heroine. It went on and on and then jsut ended. I knew what was to happen long before it did.Let me say, this author had a brilliant idea when it came to this series' story line. I guess the book should have been shorter.I hated the fact that marriage was not held sacred.  Yet I was pleased how it showed forgiveness and god's grace.

NOTE : I received a copy of the Crimson Cord in exchange for an honest review from Revell Publishers.

Fun kids book

Look Inside the Time of Jesus
A Lift-the-Flap Discovery Book
By Lois Rock
Illustrated by Lorenzo Orlandi

Part of the Lift-the-Flap Discover Book series, this letter-size hardbound of eight pages targets children three to seven years old.  Very fun! Learn about the life and times of Jesus while lifting flaps. Will make a great Christmas gift for my best friends little girl! Also would be a great Sunday book. The illustrations are cute and colorful, and the lift-the-flap appeal will draw young children to want to have this one read to them again and again.

The book does take you on a journey revealing all kinds of fascinating details behind the flaps. Each flap tells a behind the scene story which will make it more fun for the kids.First let me start by saying that this is very good quality - a beautiful hard cover book with heavy board pages, perfect for small hands. It is also a nice big size.

Thanks to Kregel Publishing for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review of the reader’s honest opinion.

In Her Kitchen: Stories and Recipes from Grandmas Around the World

In Her Kitchen

This is a super fun book! On each page is a picture of a grandam with her ingredient a dish,  from around the world and a little about her, her cooking, family and land. On the other side is the recipe pictured!! Photographer Gabriele Galimberti has traveled the world, interviewing women who have served their families in the home for decades.! This book is quite varied; the author includes countries from South America, Africa, North America, Asia and Europe. I have yet to share with my siblings but I know they will enjoy it since we have a fasination for people from other lands!

Note of worning - there are two pictures not to be shown to a mixed group. This book is to be treasured mainly for the photographs and short  sketches about each beloved grandmother! Featuring grandmothers and their dishes from sixty countries, Galimberti has captured the heart and soul of families across the globe.

Gabriele Galimberti - In Her Kitchen GABRIELE GALIMBERTI is a photographer whose work has appeared in Newsweek, Le Monde, and Vanity Fair, among other publications. In 2013, he finished an eighteen-month photography trip around the world. His photographs and stories have led to partnerships with illy and CouchSurfing.org and have appeared in slideshows onSlate. No matter where he currently rests his head, he calls Italy his home.
In a gorgeous keepsake volume based on the slideshow that captured the world’s attention, Gabriele Galimberti’s beautiful portraits of grandmothers from all over the world with their signature dishes stunningly illustrates the international language of food and family. On the eve of a photography trip around the world, Gabriele Galimberti sat down to dinner with his grandmother Marisa. As she had done so many times before, she prepared his favorite ravioli—a gesture of love and an expression of the traditions by which he had come to know her as a child. The care with which she prepared this meal, and the evident pride she took in her dish, led Gabriele to seek out grandmothers and their signature dishes in the sixty countries he visited. The kitchens he photographed illustrate both the diversity of world cuisine and the universal nature of a dish served up with generosity and love. At each woman’s table, Gabriele became a curious and hungry grandson, exploring new ingredients and gathering stories. These vibrant and intimate profiles and photographs pay homage to grandmothers and their cooking everywhere. From a Swedish housewife and her homemade lox and vegetables to a Zambian villager and her Roasted Spiced Chicken, this collection features a global palate: included are hand-stuffed empanadas from Argentina, twice-fried pork and vegetables from China, slow-roasted ratatouille from France, and a decadent toffee trifle from the United States. Taken together or bite by bite, In Her Kitchen taps into our collective affection for these cherished family members and the ways they return that affection.

Guess Who Noah's Boat

Who does not like a good children s book? My best friend has a little three year old ans a 1 year old who will be receiving this book and spending hours  having fun with it. That's how confidante I am that they will love this little book. It is a very sturdy board book that will stand up to little hands opening and closing the flaps many times! This book introduces the animals in Noah’s Ark, allowing children to guess which animal is hiding on each page.

This is very cute even though children do not learn  the true story of Noah and the flood. Nothing silly about it. With fun, rhyming text, each spread asks kids to guess which animal is heading toward the ark. The answer is revealed under the cleverly designed flap. With eye-catching illustrations and easy-to-understand text, Guess Who Noah'sBoat is sure to become a favorite.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kregel Publications in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Cute Board book!

As you research the candy cane you will discover that this is not the "real meaning for the candy cane. It is what  Christians have used to put Christ back into all  the traditions of Christmas!  Yet I still enjoyed the story!!

With very beautiful pictures in, this sweet and heartwarming story unfolds in "The Legend of the Candy Cane." Every candy cane you see during the season of Christmas should remind you of Jesus Christ's reason for coming to Earth. Remember Jesus when it comes to Christmas, He truly is the reason for the season. This would be a wonderful addition to any Christmas library for children and adults alike. Will make a nice  gift, and will be read each season.

One dark November night a stranger rides into a small prairie town. Who is he? Why has he come? The townspeople wish he were a doctor, a dressmaker, or a trader. But the children have the greatest wish of all, a deep, quiet, secret wish. Then a young girl named Lucy befriends the newcomer. When he reveals his identity and shares with her the legend of the candy cane, she discovers fulfillment of her wishes and the answer to her town's dreams. Now will she share what she has learned? Warm, lavish illustrations by James Bernardin bring to life a timeless tale by Lori Walburg, a story that will help families celebrate the mystery and miracle of Christmas - for many Christmases to come.

Not your topical baby board book. It  felt like one of those special books to be read and treasured!

Life on the Family Farm

Life on the Family Farm, Tom Heck This is a fun book with in site from Tom' life on a dairy farm.  Not only is this well written but  I feel like I  was really  reading his newspaper  columns. Tom’s stories have spread like wildfire from his hometown newspaper to papers across America. Readers tell him,
This book is a charming tale about the joys  of every day life , and Tom's  deep respect for God, people, and his animals which is  very  refreshing.  Each  chapter has a different lesson .

This is a book you could read to your children and glean lessons for hem to learn. The book is one that family readers will enjoy, particularly those with young children. There is also a strong focus on family and parental values. Not at all boring! This book, Life On The Family Farm, is a series of short stories that the author, Tom Heck, has compiled over the years.  I loved hos his family were included in his tales! I appreciate that his stories are based on what has happened to him in real life. every farmer will be able to relate to this book as well parents and  for everyone else it  will make you wish you  lived in he country on a arm of some sort.

Not your typical family book- even better!

A wonderful book which my mother  has now asked to read! Clint Archer has shown how  sports concepts can be helpful when considering what God's plan for the family is. The father is the coach and his children the team!  I highly recommend this book for every family, no matter how big or small you may be, and no matter where you are in your Spiritual walk.
Using the analogy of a sports team — something that those in America are very familiar with — Archer lays out a Scriptural portrait of the family from God’s perspective. He covers every side of it and makes one very convicted on how  each should liv. I liked his  ideas on fathers- they must each  and mothers  they can   have a side job! Not your ticl book but one that is very balanced. All support the team leader- the father.Archer, who is pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in South Africa, uses a number of sports related illustrations to help emphasize the concept that the Christian family is a team.  All in all, I found this a very balanced perspective You should read and order for every newly married couple or for the average family. A must for church libraries!

Families, just like sports teams, must understand their goals and their opponents. Every member of the family must know his or her position and the rules of the game. And the family needs to understand the consequences of poor play as well as the rewards of fair play” (9).

Prayers for kids!

The prayers are about broken toys, baby brothers, bad moods and daddies who work long hours. This is only a few of the prayer themes  I am not a fan of making kids recite a prayer but it is a good start for them just as we sue   the Psalms as spring boards for our prayers as well as the Lord's prayers). Delightful drawings in this cute book!

Claire Freedman lives on the Essex coast. She is the author of a number of children’s books, and has also written for Little Tiger Press. When not writing, Claire spends her time sailing, walking in the countryside and, when she can, travelling.|Jo Parry trained at Bournemouth Arts Institute before becoming a full-time artist. She illustrates mainly greetings cards, fine art and children’s books, adapting her fun, colourful style to each of these genres. She creates her characteristic style using an Apple Mac, and is fulfilling a life-long dream working as an illustrator. Jo lives in Bournemouth, on England’s south coast -

Over all I think she did a cute job with this "poem"/ prayer book. It would be good to read a pae each night before your little one goes to bed!

Motherhood book worth owning!

This book is such a beautiful resource, more than what I expected! I debated giving it away to a young lady jsut getting married but decided against it and will keep hoping that some day I can use it  Lord  willing!  This book full of quotes drew me into it. Each chapter opens up with info about what is happening at the time of  life thus it celebrates the beauty of motherhood and pregnancy with neat 3D images of a baby`s growth each week, web links to ultrasound videos, advise on proper nutrition and the need for different vitamins, and stories from other mothers.  In fact I find this a beautiful gift and would not mind ordering this as gifts for others but I will treasure my copy where I will be able to write info about my pregnancy some day!   I enjoyed all of the different categories throughout the book, and think the calender  at the back is  neat idea. It even comes with stickers to place on the days  important things happen!
