Cute Board book!

As you research the candy cane you will discover that this is not the "real meaning for the candy cane. It is what  Christians have used to put Christ back into all  the traditions of Christmas!  Yet I still enjoyed the story!!

With very beautiful pictures in, this sweet and heartwarming story unfolds in "The Legend of the Candy Cane." Every candy cane you see during the season of Christmas should remind you of Jesus Christ's reason for coming to Earth. Remember Jesus when it comes to Christmas, He truly is the reason for the season. This would be a wonderful addition to any Christmas library for children and adults alike. Will make a nice  gift, and will be read each season.

One dark November night a stranger rides into a small prairie town. Who is he? Why has he come? The townspeople wish he were a doctor, a dressmaker, or a trader. But the children have the greatest wish of all, a deep, quiet, secret wish. Then a young girl named Lucy befriends the newcomer. When he reveals his identity and shares with her the legend of the candy cane, she discovers fulfillment of her wishes and the answer to her town's dreams. Now will she share what she has learned? Warm, lavish illustrations by James Bernardin bring to life a timeless tale by Lori Walburg, a story that will help families celebrate the mystery and miracle of Christmas - for many Christmases to come.

Not your topical baby board book. It  felt like one of those special books to be read and treasured!

James the Just

The author(s) set out to show that James was the chief rabbi of the messianic Jewish community in Jerusalem and what his position meant in terms of what we see recorded in Acts

A good book to read if you have time to study this passage.
I was truly blessed by this book and will definitely recommend it to others. This is an excellent and very helpful book. Overall, I'd recommend this book to those interested in the Jewish background to the New Testament. It is just not one of those books you sit down to read and enjoy all in one shot. This volume is 152 pages long.

Yeshua`s Brother & Chief Rabbi of the Messianic Jewish Community James the Just (Ya`Akov HaTzaddik) Presents Applications of Torah By Dr. David Friedman with D.B. Friedman
When we view Ya’acov (James) for who he was: a chief rabbi, a Torah scholar, a Bible commentator, and akin to a high court judge, then we can better understand the purpose of his book. One of the main thrusts of Ya’acov’s teaching is encouraging the practical application of the Torah’s teachings.
Praise for James the Just Presents Applications of Torah:
“…a whole new perspective on how to view the book of Ya`acov. With his scholarship and knowledge of ancient Hebrew texts, Dr. Friedman puts Ya`acov back into his correct historical context and gives us much to chew on.”
— Dr. M. Leibowitz, Tempe, AZ
“…hidden Jewish concepts are brought out, which would have been known to the reference community of Ya’acov, who received this practical manual for Jewish life…an important explanation of the theme of “faith vs. works.”
— S. H. R. ben Haim, MILIM-MJTI Center, Jerusalem, Israel.
“It is a privilege to drink from the author’s very deep well of knowledge and understanding of the ancient languages of Scripture.”
— Pastor Steven Shelley, Salem, AL.
“Dr. David Friedman has written a refreshing look at the book of James/Ya’acov, making it clearly understood that there is a balance of Torah observance and God’s grace.”
— Shmuel Oppenheim, Rabbi, Lev HaShem Messianic Jewish Synagogue, Las Vegas, Nevada
About the Authors:
Dr. David Friedman is the former Academic Dean and Professor of Jewish Studies at King of Kings College in Jerusalem, Israel. Currently, Friedman lectures internationally on biblical topics, as well as on the history of the modern State of Israel. A former member of the Israel Defense Forces, he also works actively in the area of Jewish-Arab reconciliation as a speaker and mentor and is an advocate for a secure State of Israel.

Life on the Family Farm

Life on the Family Farm, Tom Heck This is a fun book with in site from Tom' life on a dairy farm.  Not only is this well written but  I feel like I  was really  reading his newspaper  columns. Tom’s stories have spread like wildfire from his hometown newspaper to papers across America. Readers tell him,
This book is a charming tale about the joys  of every day life , and Tom's  deep respect for God, people, and his animals which is  very  refreshing.  Each  chapter has a different lesson .

This is a book you could read to your children and glean lessons for hem to learn. The book is one that family readers will enjoy, particularly those with young children. There is also a strong focus on family and parental values. Not at all boring! This book, Life On The Family Farm, is a series of short stories that the author, Tom Heck, has compiled over the years.  I loved hos his family were included in his tales! I appreciate that his stories are based on what has happened to him in real life. every farmer will be able to relate to this book as well parents and  for everyone else it  will make you wish you  lived in he country on a arm of some sort.

The Kitchen Ecosystem is a unique cookbook

9780385345125

I was very impressed with this cookbook despite the fact it lacked pictures. It does  have some wonderful ones though but just not quite enough.

The Kitchen Ecosystem will change how we think about food and cooking. Designed to to create and use ingredients that maximize flavor, these 400 recipes are derived from 40 common ingredients--from asparagus to fish to zucchini--used at each stage of its "life cycle": fresh, preserved, and in a main dish.

In each section, there are then recipes separated based on how you can use your ingredient: "eat some fresh" (uses the fresh ingredient in the recipe), "preserve some" (pickling, canning, drying, etc), "use the preserves", "use the scraps", and "make more" (makes further use of the toss-away liquid and such that was produced from one of the other recipes)..  I really think she hit it right on the spot with recipes for some very unique but favorite foods such as figs.Infact e even have our own fig tree growing in a pot  lot doors. Now, one  can prepare one dish and use the remaining ingredients for canning or other dishes. After all of the recipes, there is a complete section of different methods of preservation as well as a section featuring a variety of recipe techniques. Each ingredient covered gets its own chapter and starts with a chart showing the breakdown of recipes into their respective categories - using fresh ingredients, making preserves, using the preserves and finally using the scraps.

The Kitchen Ecosystem is a wonderful cook book. It is the type of book that inspires you to be creative.  This book will be well used at our house. With over 400 recipes I highly recommend you order it!

A hard to read book

This is about Robs work in the Uk. He writes "The Father is standing with open arms, inviting you in to experience all that he has created and called you to be. You have been saved for this"

I did not agree with the authors approach on many subjects.I was personally not impressed with this easy-to-read book. Although I struggle with several of the sins presented in it, I found the lessons pretty basic.   From a personal opinion, this book was nothing new

I read it several times but  jsut could not get into it. For Rob Peabody, the young pastor at a mega-church in southern USA, the realization that his faith had little real connection with the world around him meant that something had to change. He redirected his church towards the poor on their doorstep and then took the larger step of moving to the UK to establish the missional fellowship, 'Awaken.'

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review

Not your typical family book- even better!

A wonderful book which my mother  has now asked to read! Clint Archer has shown how  sports concepts can be helpful when considering what God's plan for the family is. The father is the coach and his children the team!  I highly recommend this book for every family, no matter how big or small you may be, and no matter where you are in your Spiritual walk.
Using the analogy of a sports team — something that those in America are very familiar with — Archer lays out a Scriptural portrait of the family from God’s perspective. He covers every side of it and makes one very convicted on how  each should liv. I liked his  ideas on fathers- they must each  and mothers  they can   have a side job! Not your ticl book but one that is very balanced. All support the team leader- the father.Archer, who is pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in South Africa, uses a number of sports related illustrations to help emphasize the concept that the Christian family is a team.  All in all, I found this a very balanced perspective You should read and order for every newly married couple or for the average family. A must for church libraries!

Families, just like sports teams, must understand their goals and their opponents. Every member of the family must know his or her position and the rules of the game. And the family needs to understand the consequences of poor play as well as the rewards of fair play” (9).

I received this book for free from Shepherd Press via Cross Focused Reviews for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and are my honest review of the book.

A Memoir of Food inn the Soviet

9780307886828

wow! I loved this book since I am a foodie and enjoy reading about food!! To say the least I read all my cookbooks!! Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking is an original. Anya Von Bremzen has told the history of the Soviet Union through the story of her grandparents, her mother, and herself, with a special emphasis on food.

I loved her other book Product Details

Please to the Table: The Russian Cookbook

which is full of  recipes This book covers a wide variety of foods and regions. as well as info from the land.

I was not disappointed with the memoir of Russia. This does have some recipes  in it but it is more like a companion to her other cookbook. This is the story of her life, her family and the Russians during the wa all with  food as the focal point!. Five stars for this and another five stars for "Please to the Table." If you love food and enjoy history, you'll want to read both. This is a must-read for anyone with any interest in the culture and society of the Soviet Union. The book traverses a century of political upheaval, wars, depression, state-sponsored propaganda and chicanery all around the unifying metaphor of food ---

Born in 1963, in an era of bread shortages, Anya grew up in a communal Moscow apartment where eighteen families shared one kitchen.A great mixture of food and history. Well worth the read.  This is Something I  will be reading out loud to my sisters while they sew in the evenings. I advise anyone who is fascinated by Russia to read it.

A sample from the book " Guests! They never stopped crowding Mom’s doorstep, whether at our apartment in the center of Moscow or at the boxy immigrant dwelling in Philadelphia where she and I landed in 1974".  There is a little  langue I am not quite sure about but overlooking that  I really enjoyed it! Yet it is not a book to be read all at once but a bit hear and there! This volume will remain in my collection forever and I am afraid will never make it to my sister as a birthday gift!  This is a truly different way to learn about the culture and people of Russia!

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review."
