Raspberry Syrup
You don’t have to wait for raspberry season to make this syrup. Frozen raspberries are easy to find and make as tasty a syrup as fresh raspberries do. The resulting syrup is a ruby-hued beauty that mixes well with lots of other syrup flavors. Try it in combination with lemon, lime, or pineapple. This syrup is featured in the Princess float (page 90).

2 pints fresh raspberries, or
24 ounces frozen raspberries
2 cups (16 ounces) cane sugar, or more depending on the tartness of the berries
5 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
11⁄4 cups (10 ounces) water
1 tablespoon honey

Put the raspberries and sugar in a saucepan. Stir briskly, mashing a few raspberries in the process. Cover and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Add the lemon juice and water and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Decrease the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey.Place a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the berry mixture into it in manageable batches, using a wooden spoon to mash the mixture against the mesh of the strainer. Discard the seedy mash that remains in the strainer. Let the syrup cool to room temperature and chill before using.

Store the syrup in covered glass jars or plastic containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. The syrup may also be frozen in plastic containers for up to 3 months. If frozen, allow to thaw in the refrigerator overnight before using.

To make a raspberry soda, fill a 12-ounce glass halfway with ice, add 1⁄4 cup (2 ounces) of Raspberry Syrup, top with seltzer, and stir gently with a soda spoon to combine.

Good teaching tool!

MaryGet to Know Series

By Nancy I. Sanders
Published by Zondervan

I was thrilled with this book and all info in it! It is great for young children and full of pictures, word definition and maps! It came at a perfect time when I had stiff neck and needed to rest, so I read it all at once! I cant wait to get the others in the series!! You will learn a lot about the Jewish people and their life!!

This would be a great addition to a Bible study or a unit study on Israel or the life of Mary!! have the kids keep a journal of word definitions from the ones scattered in the book! Maps would be great for printing for the class. There is a section on the coins so have the kids make some!! Timeline of Mary - Shows an approximate dates of Mary’s life and what was going on around the world at the same time. Have kids copy into note book and draw a picture above it.  Lots of ideas will come from this book as I make up my own unit study! This is one book you should own. And it is not a very costly volume!!A must have for Christian households.

What a church should be!

Was a good book with practical tips!Does an increased attendance mean that the church is actually growing? Wouldn't the number of lives changed be a better indicator of growth.  This book shows ways you can get people to church in a true way! What is your church’s priority? Are you more concerned with filling your building or furthering the Kingdom? These are questions Nathan Lorick asks in his book “Dying to Grow: Reclaiming the Heart for Evangelism in the Local Church” (Aneko Press, paperback, 141 pages.) Lorick, director of evangelism at the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention and a former Texas pastor, tells how as a younger man he was awakened to find himself pursuing “the ministerial version of the American dream,” valuing worldly definitions of church success over real, biblical, Christ-centered obedience and Great Commission focus This books shows that numbers don't always mean that more souls are added for Christ!  Churches must focus on Christ and his message then keeping people happy and in church!

Worth the read! a very practical book! Read reviews on http://www.lifesentencepublishing.com/dying-to-grow-blog-tour/

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Life Sentence Publishing.cid:image001.jpg@01CF4CCA.91C734D0

Summary

Understanding the doctrines of grace will give you a clearer picture of God’s sovereignty. From the lawgiver Moses to the apostle John, and from the early church fathers to modern defenders of the faith, there has marched onto the stage of human history a long line of godly men, a triumphant parade of spiritual stalwarts who have upheld the doctrines of grace. In this book, the first in the three-volume A Long Line of Godly Men series, Dr. Steven J. Lawson takes you on a heart-stirring survey of the Scriptures to show that the Bible in its entirety teaches the doctrines of grace

I was delighted with this book all the way and would highly recommend it! God’s sovereignty is manifest throughout sacred Scripture and in this book.Lawson begins in chapter 1 - "A Long Line of Godly Men" - showing some history of refomation history as it is based on the Bible!  A very clear book to read. a family devotion or a great graduation gift! Order today for $24 a saving of  $4 at http://www.ligonier.org/store/foundations-of-grace-hardcover/.   This is a  chronologically survey of 3,500 years of men who believed in and upheld the doctrines of grace. This is several volumes in one!  The first talking of men in the Bible. This book, Volume 1, starts with Moses and concludes with John Volumes two through five will take their biographical studies from the pages of church history in the following manner:Why should you read this? Lawson makes that clear also:

"The doctrine of election, then, is at the very heart of redemptive history. It
is not some insignificant, esoteric doctrine that can be trivialized or relegated
to seminary classroom debates. Rather, it is at the center of how we under-
stand salvation and the church. It informs our evangelism, our preaching, and
our identity as the body of Christ." (pg. 18)

Others say As Dr. Steve Lawson’s reconnaissance of this matter so clearly shows, God’s sovereignty is manifest throughout sacred Scripture… . When you finish reading this book, I would wonder and worry if you continue to persist in denying the full measure of God’s sovereignty in our salvation.”
— Dr. R.C. Sproul, Minister of preaching and teaching, Saint Andrew’s Chapel, Sanford, Fla.
The doctrines of grace are often misunderstood and mischaracterized. This helpful new book explains them thoughtfully and well. May God use it for His glory and others’ good.”
— Dr. D. James Kennedy, Senior Minister, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Steve Lawson understands that the text of the Bible presents a consistent witness to God’s sovereignty and the panoramic display of God’s glory. All this is evident in his preaching ministry and in his writing ministry as well.”
— R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Steven Lawson clearly and comprehensively lays the scriptural groundwork for the doctrines of grace.”
— Dr. John MacArthur, Pastor-teacher, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, Calif.
Gripped in mind and heart by the twin truths of God’s total sovereignty and His amazing grace, Steve Lawson compellingly traces these themes from the beginning to the end of Scripture… . Foundations of Grace shows, in a multitude of ways, that the Scriptures are useful ‘for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.’”
— Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson, Senior pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S.C.

I love this amazing book. Thus I encourage you to go to http://www.randomhouse.com/book/225208/simple-thai-food-by-leela-punyaratabandhu to see inside the book for some wonderful mouth watering photographs! I got this book to test because this country has always been my favorite and I love the publishers series of other cookbooks.  I have been a huge fan of  traditional Thai food! An absolutely wonderful cookbook! I tried a number of recipes and liked them all.

The food is amazing and I made several recipes for dinner last night! sure some of the ingredients you may not have on hand but they are easy to find at  stores!Kai Phat Khing (Chicken Ginger Stir Fry), was  mouth watering and |I will be making it again soon!

I loved reading the personal stories behind the recipes,  and the tips !
This is a new cookbook that just came out in May of this year and is truly worth having in any kitchen! I will share one recipe which will make you want the book! Please visit her websight! http://shesimmers.com/

authentic thai peanut sauce
The traditional version of this recipe including how to make the curry paste from scratch and how to make pork or chicken satay to serve with this sauce, as they do in Thailand, can be found in my book,Simple Thai Food: Classic Recipes from the Thai Home Kitchen (Ten Speed Press, 2014).

Easy Thai Peanut Sauce Recipe: How to Make My Mom's Thai Satay Sauce
Prep time
Cook time
Total time
A word about this recipe: If you're looking for a Chinese-style peanut sauce that goes over noodles or Vietnamese-style peanut sauce that is served with fresh spring rolls, this is not it. You can use this sauce in that way, if desired. But this is a Thai satay sauce which is on the sweet side, has a flavor that is found in Thai curry (but is not supposed to be hot), and is served as a dipping sauce for Thai-style satay. If you're looking for the kind of peanut sauce that contains Chinese ingredients such as sesame oil, chili sauce, or hoisin sauce, this is not it. Thai-style satay sauce does not contain any of those ingredients and is not seasoned in the same way.
Author:
Recipe type: Condiment
Cuisine: Thai
Serves: 3.5 cups
Ingredients
  • One 13.5-ounce can of full-fat, unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 ounces (approximately ¼ cup) of Thai red (mom’s preference and mine too) or Massaman curry paste (milder but flavorful)
  • ¾ cup unsweetened (natural) creamy peanut butter (Do not use regular peanut butter or anything with added emulsifiers. It must be the type of natural peanut butter that comes with natural peanut oil on top and no sugar added. I often use Smucker's.)
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar (Do not use white wine, red wine, balsamic, or anything else — not even rice vinegar)
  • ½ cup water
Instructions
  1. Put everything into a medium heavy-bottomed pot and bring to a very gentle boil over medium heat, whisking constantly.
  2. Let the mixture simmer for 3-5 minutes over low heat; be careful not to let the mixture scorch at the bottom of the pot.
  3. Take the pot off the heat, let the sauce cool down to room temperature (or slightly warmer), and serve the sauce with satay or fried tofu.

All for a sister by Allison Pittman

This was a well written book but at times I felt lost in it! I was expecting more from it- may be more of a Christian plot to it. Also the story line is has some very shady people in it so i would watch out who reads this book.

I like how the book sifts back and forth from three  plots that  all intertwine but I was shocked at the mystery of how the girls found out they were sister. To much of this happens in the world, we don't need to read about it! some times I could not follow because I forgot if it was the movie script, the letter or the girls life after prison.  I wont give up on the author because she can write so i will read her other books.

Thanks tyndale  for letting me review this!
