About the Author

Dr. Stephen Gammon is a third-generation minister and has walked with God since early childhood. A pastor since age 25, he has served more than 30 years wherever and whenever God has led him, including in two local church pastorates, as a denominational leader of ministers and churches (Conservative Congregational Christian Conference), and as an active duty and Navy Reserves chaplain. Steve and his wife, Helen, reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They have three adult children, a son-in-law, and a grandson.

Pillars of Grace!

 I was so impressed with this  contents  of  this volume that is quickly became a favorite! This book come after  A Long Line of Godly Men. In volume one, Lawson walked readers through every book of the Bible and demonstrated how the doctrines of grace emerge on every page of Scripture.. This is volume too, my friends and even better then the first! This volume shows how these God-centered doctrines emerge in the writings of the early apologists, church fathers, medieval theologians, and the Protestant Reformers. It was a great read and I think all types can enjoy this book from pastors, to parents, teachers to students , teenagers, young adults, adults,, grandparents and everyone in between!

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in an introductory text on significant theologians from church history. I found this to be a very enjoyable read that engaged both my head and led my heart to thank God for his sovereignty. Following  biographical sketches, Lawson proceeds to give ample evidence of the doctrines of grace in each man's teaching and writing. This is a mighty volume, not to be skipped!

The doctrines of grace are often known as the five points of Calvinism, but they were not the invention of John Calvin or his reforming cohorts of the sixteenth century. Rather, they are biblical doctrines, as Dr. Steven J. Lawson demonstrated in his book Foundations of Grace (2006). Now, in Pillars of Grace, Dr. Lawson shows that the doctrines of grace have been understood and taught sometimes in embryonic form, sometimes with great clarity throughout church history. From the time of the early church fathers to the years of the Reformers, there have been key men in the church, pillars as it were, who stood on the foundation of Scripture and upheld the truth of God's sovereign role in salvation. In Pillars of Grace, Dr. Lawson walks readers through the ups and downs of church history, profiling these voices for the truth. The inescapable conclusion is that the doctrines of grace are no innovation, but the consistent witness of some of the greatest men of the church.

Silly book

I thought this might be a funny book! But Conrad and the Cowgirl Next Door is written by Denette Fretz and is illustrated by Gene Barretta. It is published by Zonderkidz. was just a bit too silly for me or any of my little sisters  under 12. First the art work turned me of then the story which kind of just ended.

“I hear that becoming a cowboy can be dangerous. Especially if you don’t know the rules. I thought this would be funny but the characters did not make me laugh.

It’s a good thing Conrad brought his Mega Ultimate Extreme First Aid Kit to Uncle Clint’s ranch because learning how to be a cowboy turns out to be a lot harder—and more painful—than he thought.  All he seems to do is  bandage himself and learn very few lessons. Conrad has a lot to learn – including don’t squat with spurs on and never wave your red sweatshirt at a bull.  I was disappointed  that there was not enough cowboy feel to the book . Supposed to be about loving your neighbor but it turns out the  " mean" little girl shows love  and Conrad learns little.

Indeed, although I  have rather a collection of cookbooks from around the world, this is my  second of the cuisine of South America besides Argentina! I was absolutely delighted as I opened this new cookbook because it made me fell as if I was smelling the  delightful  wefts of fresh fish. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in expanding your cooking repertoire.  I am exited to be able to give you all the link to this recipe

 A fresh and delicious cookbook. I just had to share another recipe!

Tiradito de Caballa 
Mackerel Tiradito with Gooseberry Tiger’s Milk This tiraditocombines Peruvian techniques with the best of British ingredients. It’s a wonderful recipe to try in the early summer when both gooseberries and mackerel are at their best. Gooseberries, small fruits closely related to the currant, are relatively rare in the United States. They like cool weather and are grown commercially along the coast of northern California and of Oregon and in the Northeast for a spring harvest. 
Serves 4
4 mackerel fillets, skinned, and trimmed
1 tsp sea salt
Juice of 2 limes
1 small red onion, very thinly sliced
1 tbsp crumbled pecans
1 dried panca chile, seeded and ground 
or finely chopped (see Note)
2 tsp capers
For the gooseberry tiger’s milk
Juice of 2 limes
31/2 oz / 100 g gooseberries
Juice of 1/2 orange
1 tbsp amarillo chile paste
A pinch of fine sea salt

Cut the mackerel fillets in half lengthwise and put them in a bowl with the salt and the lime juice. Leave to “cook” for about 5 minutes.

Put all the tiger’s milk ingredients in a food processor or blender and blitz until smooth. Strain the liquid through a sieve to remove any gooseberry seeds.

Remove the mackerel from the salt and lime juice mixture, reserving the marinade. Cut the mackerel on the diagonal across the grain, ending up with very thin, wide slices. Divide among 4 serving plates.

Drizzle the tiger’s milk over the fish and then top with the onion, pecans, panca chile, and capers. Season with salt before serving.

  As I read all this book, I  flet like I was in another world.  Simple recipes but taste terrific.Interesting

Hard to read

It was written in a way, that is a little difficult for a real child to understand. I would recommend it for children around the age of  teens but  they wont love the book, I  read it as an adult and got the message right way " work hard, don't let the government give you free things." But then I passed it on to my 7 1/2   and 11 1/2  year old sisters and they had to read it several times  before understanding it. The 8 year old even had to have the story explained to her. She did love the cute drawing of  turtle land!

.The story is a touching, but compelling one in that it tells the story of Ippy Tippy Town, a town that is full of Wanna Workers that are just trying to survive in a town full of other turtles that aren't so ready to go out and work.
